How to Export Video from DaVinci Resolve: MP4, H.264/H.265, YouTube and Quality

Quick Export or Deliver Page
Quick Export is designed for fast output through ready-made presets. Deliver Page is the full rendering workspace where you control filename, destination, format/codec, resolution, frame rate, quality, audio and the render queue.
Create a Deliver job
- Open Deliver Page.
- Choose a preset or Custom Export.
- Set filename and destination.
- Check Video and Audio settings.
- Click Add to Render Queue.
- Start the selected job or Render All from the queue.
Important
Add to Render Queue does not start rendering by itself; it only creates the job.
MP4/MOV versus H.264/H.265
MP4 and QuickTime/MOV are containers; H.264 and H.265/HEVC are video codecs inside them. MP4 + H.264 is a common compatibility-first web delivery. H.265 can reduce file size at similar quality but is heavier to encode/decode and less universal on older devices.
Resolution and frame rate
Use output resolution and fps that match the timeline and delivery requirement. Do not change 25 fps to 60 fps simply for a larger number; that does not create genuine motion samples.
- 1920×1080 — Full HD.
- 3840×2160 — UHD 4K.
- 1080×1920 — common vertical Full HD.
- Keep timeline/source frame rate unless there is a specific conversion requirement.
Quality and bitrate
There is no single perfect bitrate for every job. Resolution, fps, motion and image complexity matter. Noise, foliage, water and fast motion require more data than a static interview.
For a master that will be edited or graded again, consider a suitable mezzanine/master codec instead of highly compressed H.264/H.265.
YouTube export
Deliver includes YouTube presets, and Quick Export also provides common publishing options. Presets are a starting point; still verify resolution, fps, audio and output destination before rendering.
H.264 or H.265
- H.264 — broad compatibility and easy client delivery.
- H.265/HEVC — more efficient compression, especially useful for 4K or file-size constraints.
- Hardware encode/decode availability depends on OS, GPU, codec and Resolve edition.

Important
If a client cannot play HEVC smoothly, the issue may be device support rather than a bad render. H.264 is often the safer delivery choice.
Entire Timeline or In/Out range
Check the render range before export. Leftover In/Out marks can cause only part of the program to render. Use Entire Timeline for the full master or an intentional range for test exports.
Verify the rendered file
- Open it outside Resolve.
- Check the beginning and end.
- Spot-check edits and graphics.
- Verify audio channels and level.
- Confirm resolution, duration and expected file size.
- Watch the entire master for important deliveries.
Common export mistakes
- Wrong Location.
- Job added to queue but render never started.
- Export Audio disabled or wrong output bus.
- Only part of the timeline rendered because of range settings.
- Unexpected file size due to quality/data-rate choices.
- Color appears different because of color management/player/tagging rather than the codec itself.
