Fusion is the professional compositing environment inside DaVinci Resolve. It is used for visual effects, titles, animation, tracking, motion graphics, particles and 3D scenes.
Fusion is built around visual node graphs rather than a conventional layer stack. Every node performs one task and passes its result to the next part of the graph.
This encyclopedia explains not only individual node parameters, but Fusion itself: how the Flow works, how images move through a graph, and why inputs, outputs, masks and Merge nodes matter.
The image travels through a node chain
Each node receives the previous result, modifies it and passes it forward. The entire image path is visible as a graph instead of a hidden stack of operations.
Fusion does not stack layers — it builds a process
Layer logic
In a layer-based workflow, a project often turns into a long stack. To understand the result, you have to read the layer order from top to bottom and figure out which layer is responsible for what.
Node logic
In Fusion you can see the input, processing, mask, merge and final output. That makes it much easier to understand exactly where an effect is created.

After joining Blackmagic Design, Fusion entered a new stage of development and became far more accessible to Resolve users.
Fusion became a dedicated page inside DaVinci Resolve for graphics, effects, tracking and 3D work.
Today Fusion is a complete node-based environment for titles, animation, large visual scenes and automation.
Anatomy of a typical Fusion graph
Footage enters through MediaIn, passes through processing, combines with titles and masks, receives effects and exits through MediaOut. Wire colors help you read the graph: yellow for background, green for image/foreground and blue for masks.

Resolve 21 expansion
