Color Corrector

Primary image correction

Adjusts luminance and color balance inside a Fusion branch without leaving the node graph.

Color Corrector
DaVinci Resolve · Fusion

Color Corrector is a flexible Fusion node for balancing a composited element, matching graphics to footage and correcting isolated regions.

Overview

What Color Corrector does

Color Corrector is useful when an element inside Fusion needs its own color treatment before it is merged into the main image. You can correct a keyed subject, graphic, plate or VFX pass without affecting the rest of the composition.

It is not a replacement for the Color page when you are grading an entire program. Its strength is local node-graph correction inside a composite.

For believable composites, correction is often less about making an element beautiful and more about making it belong: matching contrast, saturation and color bias to the receiving shot.

Mental model

Think of Color Corrector as a local grading stage for one branch of the Fusion composition.

Common uses

Match a graphic to footage
Correct a keyed subject
Reduce saturation in one branch
Tint an effect pass
Balance contrast before compositing
Grade only a masked region

Inputs & outputs

The port structure shows how this node fits into a Fusion graph.

Input

Source image for the operation.

Effect Mask

Restricts correction to a masked region.

Inspector

Important parameters

Start with these controls before reaching for more complicated workarounds.

Saturation

Controls color intensity.

Reduce saturation for realism or increase it for stylized graphics.

Hue

Rotates color hue.

Useful for quick color remapping, but large rotations can produce unnatural results.

Gain

Adjusts brighter tonal values and overall intensity.

Useful for matching highlights or changing branch brightness.

Gamma

Adjusts midtones.

Often the most useful control for perceptual brightness matching.

Lift

Adjusts darker tonal values.

Useful for black-level matching and shadow balance.

Offset

Adds a uniform offset to the corrected image values.

Color Wheels

Balances shadow, midtone and highlight color independently with the three color wheels.

Ranges

Defines the range over which this operation is active.

Effect Mask

Limits the effect to the connected mask.

Blend

Sets how strongly the processed result is mixed into the image.

Practical setup

A reliable workflow

  1. 1

Place Color Corrector in the branch that needs adjustment.

  2. 2

Match black level and contrast first.

  3. 3

    Balance midtones and highlights.

  4. 4

    Adjust saturation and color bias.

  5. 5

Use an Effect Mask when only part of the image should change.

Troubleshooting

Common mistakes

Trying to grade the entire edit in Fusion instead of using the Color page.
Increasing saturation before matching luminance and contrast.
Correcting the final Merge when only one source branch is mismatched.

Production notes

Practical tips

Match luminance before chasing hue.
Correct branches independently before the final composite when possible.
Use scopes on the Color page for full-shot grading; use Fusion correction for comp-level matching.
