MultiPoly

Several contours in one controlled matte

Combines Polygon and B-Spline shapes in one mask with independent controls and animation. Review contours, Paint Mode order, intermediate frames and the correct mask output.

MultiPoly

Overview

What MultiPoly does

Break a complex object into meaningful parts such as body, hand, hole or exclusion region. Each shape remains independent in Polygon List while output is one matte. This organization simplifies changes while point and key counts remain manageable.

The selected shape has Level, edge filtering and softness, Border Width, Solid and transforms. Inspect geometry without blur first. Add feather afterward; it cannot repair misplaced points or incorrect motion.

Paint Mode controls combination with the accumulated mask: add a region, cut a hole, intersect shapes or replace the result. Fill Method serves another purpose: determining the inside of one self-intersecting curve. Do not substitute one for the other.

To animate a MultiPoly shape, use the diamond beside Right-click here for shape animation or choose Animate. Set reference frames and inspect the intervals. This is manual roto with interpolation; it does not start automatic object tracking.

Connect the mask to the target node’s Effect Mask, such as Blur for local softening or Background for a colored shape with alpha. Images remain on their own branch. MultiPoly’s single blue input is for another mask rather than source footage.

Output Size and Clipping Mode align raster and boundaries with the recipient. Inspect the white, gray and black matte before the effect, then the full composite in motion. After Split here, separately review the order in which the new masks combine.

When to use it

  • Roto of several parts of a moving object.

  • A matte containing holes and exclusion regions.

  • Local blur over several independent regions.

  • A colored shape or outline through Background.

  • Combining an incoming mask with manual refinements.

  • Splitting a complex list into manageable masks.
