Cache Audio Effects and Bounce Audio Effects in Fairlight

Resolve 21 exposes both commands directly in the audio-clip context menu. Cache is a performance-oriented state; Bounce is the commit-oriented step. The live captures show the clip before processing, a cached state, the context-menu state and the bounced result.

Resolve commits the processed audio result to the clip workflow.

1. Before

Start with a clip that already has an audio effect

The FX badge on the clip is the useful visual anchor: the clip is still carrying an active effect chain before cache or bounce is applied.

Editable state

The effect is still part of the current clip-processing workflow.

Performance can matter

Heavier processing may motivate caching before you decide to commit anything.

2. Cache Audio Effects

Cache creates a processed playback state without turning the workflow into a permanent final decision

The captured context menu shows Cache Audio Effects checked while Bounce Audio Effects remains available. The cached clip also gains an additional small state icon beside the FX badge.

3. Bounce Audio Effects

Bounce is the commit-oriented step in the clip workflow

After bounce, the waveform/state of the clip changes and the context menu can show Bounce Audio Effects unavailable for that resulting state. That is the important distinction from a temporary cache.

Commit deliberately

Use bounce when you intentionally want the processed result to become the working audio state, not merely a playback cache.

Keep a reversible copy when needed

For critical material, duplicate the clip or preserve an earlier version before committing heavy processing.

4. Where the commands live

The upper Fairlight menu in the supplied capture contains Bus Format, Bus Assign, Patch Input/Output, monitoring, automation and batch fades, but no separate bounce command is visible there. The article therefore documents only the UI that actually appears in the screenshots.
