Meter in mixer context

A bus meter becomes more useful when you can see what feeds it

The separate L/R meter explains channel level cleanly. The live Mixer capture adds the second half of the picture: track faders and processors feed Bus 1, and the bus meter responds during playback. That is why the diagrams stay on the page instead of being replaced by screenshots.

1. Reading the bars

Two channels, one immediate question: what is the signal doing right now?

L

The left-channel bar shows instantaneous signal level for the left side of the stereo path represented by this meter.

R

The right-channel bar lets you compare level behavior against the left side and quickly spot persistent channel imbalance.

0 → −50 dB

The supplied interface exposes a conventional downward dB scale. Values closer to 0 are higher; falling farther down the scale means less signal level.

Not LUFS

This view is about channel signal level. Program loudness, Integrated/Short readings and loudness standards belong to the dedicated Loudness Meter workflow.

2. Practical checks

Use the meter to confirm what your ears suspect

Channel imbalance

If one side remains consistently much higher, inspect the source, pan position, channel mapping and any asymmetric processing before compensating blindly with output gain.

Peak risk

A level meter is the first visual warning that the signal is running hot. For final delivery, use the appropriate true-peak/loudness tools rather than treating this simple L/R view as a complete mastering meter.

Silence or wrong routing

If one or both bars never move, verify the source, mute/solo state, channel mapping and routing before assuming the meter itself is broken.

Phase Meter answers a different question than level or loudness

The live Resolve 21 Metering submenu confirms Phase Meter alongside Frequency Analyzer, Loudness Meter, Meter and Surround Analyzer. Its role is phase/relationship diagnostics rather than programme loudness or simple L/R level, so it belongs naturally alongside the other metering tools when you diagnose stereo or multi-mic relationships.

Use it when stereo or multi-mic material raises questions about channel relationship and compatibility. Exact UI controls are intentionally not guessed.

Different question

Level Meter asks how strong the signal is; Phase Meter asks how channels relate to one another.
