Overview

What TiltShiftBlur does

Creates a configurable in-focus band with near/far blur, lens-style iris controls and optional map-driven focus for tilt-shift and selective-focus effects.

The node builds an in-focus band rather than blurring the whole frame uniformly. Center, Angle, Focus Sweep and In-Focus Range place that band, while Near Blur and Far Blur let foreground and background softness be tuned independently.

Lens Blur gives the most optical character and exposes iris shape, blade curvature, rotation, anamorphism and highlight controls; Fast Blur is cheaper for previews or graphic work. When using an external alpha, RGB or depth map, inspect the blur-strength preview before judging the final image.

Mental model

Imagine rotating and sweeping a thin plane of focus across the frame. Everything inside the band stays sharper while areas on either side transition into independent near and far blur.

Troubleshooting

Common mistakes

Using an overly narrow focus band on noisy footage
Pushing blur before placing the focus region
Adding strong anamorphism with no visual motivation
Treating it as physically accurate depth when no real depth map is used

Production notes

Practical tips

Set focus geometry first, optical character second.
A little saturation/contrast adjustment can reinforce a miniature look, but keep it separate from the blur node.
