Processes interlaced video by stripping fields, interpolating missing lines, deinterlacing, interlacing or correcting field dominance.

Fields is a technical video node for archival, broadcast and other field-based sources. It helps convert between interlaced and progressive representations and repair incorrect field order.

Overview

What Fields does

Operation chooses the fundamental task: do nothing, strip one field, interpolate from one field, deinterlace or create interlaced output.

Reverse Field Dominance addresses temporal order rather than visible combing alone. Incorrect dominance often produces a forward-backward judder on moving objects.

Process Mode tells Fusion whether the source should be interpreted as full frames, NTSC fields, PAL/HD fields or a reversed variant.

Mental model

Think of Fields as a line-order interpreter for video: it decides which set of alternating scan lines belongs first and how those fields should become a progressive or interlaced frame.

Operation

Deinterlace

Creates a progressive result from interlaced input.

Interlace

Creates field-based output from progressive input.

Full Frames

Processes the source as progressive full frames.

NTSC Fields

Processes the source as NTSC interlaced fields.

PAL/HD Fields

Processes the source as PAL/HD interlaced fields.

PAL/HD Fields (Reversed)

Processes PAL/HD fields with the opposite field dominance.

NTSC Fields (Reversed)

Processes NTSC fields with the opposite field dominance.

Auto

Lets Fusion choose the field-processing mode from the source and composition settings.

Practical setup

A reliable workflow

    Find a section with obvious motion.

    Select the correct Process Mode for the source.

    Use Deinterlace for ordinary progressive conversion.

    If motion judders, test field dominance/reversed mode.
