Fragments is a procedural breakup node for mosaic disintegration, digital fragmentation, reveal effects and controlled image decomposition.

Overview

What Fragments does

Channel and Low/High define what source values participate in fragmentation, while Size Minimum and Maximum control the scale of the broken pieces.

Range controls determine how fragments are selected, randomized and overlapped across the image.

Range Fade is the key animation concept: it lets groups of fragments appear or disappear in a controlled sequence rather than dissolving the whole image uniformly.

Mental model

Think of Fragments as dividing the image into many pieces, then using a range selector to decide which group of pieces is currently visible or affected.

Common mistakes

Using fragment sizes too small to read
Changing Random Seed every frame and creating noise instead of progression
Ignoring important subject regions during breakup

Production notes

Practical tips

Use larger pieces first, then add detail only if the transition needs it.
A static seed with animated range controls produces more coherent motion.
Combine with Glow or ColorMap after fragmentation, not before, for a cleaner graphic style.
