Grow

Seed-based procedural region growth

Krokodove Grow reveals or removes an image from one or more seed locations. Channel, reveal boundaries and seed positions are separate decisions; convert its image through Bitmap when a mask connection is required.

Grow

Overview

What Grow does

Grow supports graphic reveals, organic transitions and expanding light regions. One or more seed positions define the origin, while the image supplies the data. It belongs to Krokodove integrated into Resolve/Fusion 21, described on manual page 2484.

Channel selects Red, Green, Blue, Alpha or Luminance. Channel Low/High defines a range in that channel. First inspect the chosen channel in the Viewer; bright RGB can have a very different Alpha structure.

Grow Start and Grow End control the two reveal boundaries. Their values are not frame numbers or a promised percentage of visible area. For a first test, keep Start fixed and vary End through a complete transition on an unchanged source.

Softness Start and Softness End soften their respective boundaries. They neither replace Start/End animation nor necessarily behave like an ordinary Blur. Inspect each boundary on a contrasting test shape, then review intermediate frames.

The original Seeds capture shows Seed Number = 1, Seed 1 coordinates and Offset 1. When using several seeds, check the fields exposed in your installed version. Coordinates set the reveal origin; Offset is a per-seed shift, not a documented delay measured in seconds.

Use Fast Noise or a gradient Background for an image map. FastNoiseTexture is a material node in a different 3D pipeline and cannot be connected directly as a 2D map. To control a title reveal or transition, send the Grow result through Bitmap and connect its Mask to Merge.EffectMask.

The sources establish the node purpose and visible controls, but not the complete propagation formula or Flow socket inventory. The teaching graphs use image processing and separate Bitmap/Merge masking; confirm any additional direct Grow Effect Mask in the target version.

When to use it

  • Create organic image reveals from luminance, alpha or noise-map content.

  • Build transitions with an irregular spatial boundary instead of a simple straight wipe.

  • Stylize spreading areas of light, smoke, cracks or digital artifacts.

  • Prepare luminance or alpha maps that are subsequently converted to masks through Bitmap.

  • Reveal titles and logos through a separate noise map or gradient.

  • Create instructional visuals whose regions appear progressively from chosen seeds.
