NoiseReduction
Temporal and spatial video noise reduction
NoiseReduction combines temporal cleaning across neighboring frames with spatial processing within a frame. Tune them separately to retain motion and texture.
NoiseReduction
Overview
What NoiseReduction does
Start by identifying the noise: static background, moving detail, luminance or color. Temporal NR compares neighboring frames and can exclude motion; Spatial NR works within a frame and may remove remaining noise at the cost of texture.
Frames, the estimation method, Motion Threshold and cleaning strength are separate decisions. Increasing Motion does not protect motion: it includes more pixels in cleaning. Increasing Temporal/Spatial Blend instead restores the source image.
Change one variable at a time on a short clip in Studio. Check 100% scale, adjacent frames and final delivery; a smooth still does not prove that trails are absent.
When to use it
Clean underexposed footage before further compositing.
Reduce colored speckles while retaining luminance texture.
Prepare noisy source footage for keying while separately inspecting matte edges.
Clean a background locally through a soft Effect Mask.
