Overview

What RadialBlur does

Creates rotational motion blur around a configurable center with realistic/stylized modes, symmetry direction and quality controls.

Center Position is the visual anchor of RadialBlur: the same blur strength can read as spin, zoom or off-axis motion depending on where that center sits. Blur Type and Symmetry then determine whether the motion feels natural, graphic, clockwise or counter-clockwise.

Use channel adjustments and quality controls only after the motion itself is right. At strong settings, Border Type becomes important because radial sampling easily reaches outside the frame and can reveal black edges or unexpected wraparound.

Mental model

Picture the image rotating around a pivot during exposure. Pixels smear along arcs centered on the chosen position rather than along straight lines.

Common uses

Create spinning motion
Add radial speed energy
Build vortex-like transitions
Blur rotating graphics
Create stylized circular streaks

Important parameters

Start with these controls before reaching for more complicated workarounds.

Smooth Strength

Sets the overall radial blur amount.

Blur Type: Realistic / Stylized

Sets Blur Type to Realistic / Stylized.

Blur Symmetry: Symmetric / Clockwise / Anticlockwise

Sets Blur Symmetry to Symmetric / Clockwise / Anticlockwise.

Channel Adjustment: Red / Green / Blue / Alpha

Provides separate controls for the red, green, blue and alpha channels.

Center Position X / Y

Sets the rotational pivot.

Quality: Faster / Better / Enhanced

Sets Quality to Faster / Better / Enhanced.

Border Type: Black / Replicate / Reflect / Wrap-Around

Sets Border Type to Black / Replicate / Reflect / Wrap-Around.

Move With Sizing

Keeps the blur center aligned when image sizing changes.

Practical setup

A reliable workflow

  1. 1

Set the Center Position on the visual pivot.

  2. 2

    Choose blur direction and symmetry.

  3. 3

Increase Smooth Strength until motion reads clearly.

  4. 4

    Use Faster quality while adjusting.

  5. 5

Check border behavior and final quality before render.

Troubleshooting

Common mistakes

Using the wrong center point
Over-blurring and losing the subject
Forgetting alpha-channel treatment on graphics
Using Enhanced quality while still designing the effect
