Recolor

Explicit source-to-destination color pairs

Krokodove Recolor replaces selected colors through multiple Color From → Color To pairs. Tolerance defines the match range, Other Pixels controls unmatched pixels, and Render covers sampling and premultiplied alpha handling.

Overview

What Recolor does

Recolor performs explicit color substitution. Specify one or more pairs, sample Color From from the node’s actual input, and set Color To. The Resolve 21 manual lists it among the integrated Krokodove Image Color Tools.

A flat palette, logo or technical color chart with known values is a good test source. Lighting, blur, noise and compression turn one real-world paint color into many values. Recolor selects values rather than recognizing clothing, a car or another semantic object.

Tolerance broadens matching around the source samples. Do not interpret it as Delta E, mask softness or a saturation percentage; those formulas are not established by the brief documentation. With similar Color From entries, do not assume an undocumented overlap priority: keep pairs distinct and test them separately.

Other Pixels Keep retains unmatched regions while Clear clears them. To use the result as a mask, first create a verified white/black RGB image, then explicitly convert it through Bitmap. Black RGB and zero alpha are different properties, so select the mask channel deliberately.

Color From and Color To expose RGBA components. With translucent edges, inspect the source before substitution: premultiplied pixel RGB depends on alpha. Pre-Divide / Post-Multiply supports processing such RGB and restoring premultiplication; it cannot recover color lost at alpha=0.

The supplied PNGs establish Controls and Render but do not show Flow. The teaching contract therefore describes one required image path, Input → Output; a separate EffectMask on the integrated node is not asserted without native verification. The local recoloring exercise uses an external Merge mask.

When to use it

  • Remap a flat logo or UI palette.

  • Build a testable selection image before Bitmap.

  • Replace a shared color in only one region.

  • Compare color-boundary sampling and translucent edges.
