Lines

Lines is a Krokodove procedural generator for grids, technical backgrounds, dashes and animated graphics. Its key distinction is straightforward: Spacing controls separation between lines, while Dot Spacing controls segment repetition along each line.

First and Last do not mean the first and last frames of the clip. They refer to the first and last line sets inside the pattern. Additional sets provide intermediate states between them; the historical author manual confirms that meaning, while Inspector captures establish current labels.

Global In/Out defines the generator’s active range. The PNG shows frames 0–119, a total of 120 frames. Changing that range does not create an animation between First and Last. For rotation or movement, add explicit Angle/Center keys and inspect the Spline curve.

Thickness sets stripe width and Softness its side-edge character. Dot Length and Dot Softness control segment shape along the line. Scaling/Increase controls vary the pattern distribution; keep them at zero initially to isolate the base dimensions. Do not infer exact formulas from labels.

Overlap combines sets inside Lines. The PNG lists Maximum, Add, Multiply and Screen. This is separate from an external Merge’s blending mode: inspect the generator first, then choose how to composite it over video. Add can substantially raise intersection values in a dense pattern.

Output is an image. Inspect its alpha for direct compositing; use Bitmap to extract Luminance or Alpha for an explicitly defined mask. Sending an image directly to a mask socket does not replace an explicit channel choice and makes the result harder to reason about.

Thin diagonals and moving dashes are sensitive to resolution and sampling. Start at 2x2 and compare 1x1 and a higher setting at the same Viewer scale. If the pattern is too fine for delivery, thicker lines or lower density may help more than maximum Super-Sampling.

Source Color Space describes space metadata and does not itself perform gamut conversion. Source Gamma Space identifies the curve; correctly configured Remove Curve removes it for linear output. Auto mode does not replace knowing which values are generated and how they are viewed.
