Estimates movement between frames and adds directional blur that mimics camera shutter exposure.

MotionBlur analyzes frame-to-frame movement and smears moving detail along the estimated direction, helping CG and graphic motion feel less mechanically sharp.

Overview

What MotionBlur does

MotionBlur is different from a simple directional blur because the blur direction can vary across the image according to estimated motion.

Motion-estimation quality and range determine how much work Fusion performs to understand movement. Faster settings are cheaper, while Better and larger ranges can help more complex movement at additional cost.

As with optical-flow tools, intersections, occlusion, transparency, flashes and fine texture can generate artifacts. Always evaluate the actual moving shot.

Think of MotionBlur as estimating where pixels traveled during the exposure and spreading them along that path.

Choosing a huge Motion Range for a shot that does not need it.
Judging quality on a still frame instead of playback.
Applying motion estimation after heavy noise or grain.

If the motion is simple and uniform, DirectionalBlur may be cheaper and cleaner.
