Music Remixer is an AI Fairlight Track FX in DaVinci Resolve Studio. Blackmagic introduced Music Remixer as a Track FX and continues to list it as an AI Fairlight effect in the current Resolve product materials and as a Studio feature. It exposes musically meaningful components that can be muted or changed in level.
The important limitation is conceptual: these are AI-separated components from a finished mix. They are not the original session's clean multitrack stems. Treat them as a powerful editorial remix layer and always listen for separation artifacts in the context of the final program.

3. Where it is useful
Solve editorial music problems before searching for a different track
Dialogue conflict
When a vocal or busy element fights speech, reducing that component can preserve the identity of the music while opening room for dialogue.
Instrumental cut
Blackmagic explicitly describes turning a vocal piece into an instrumental-style version by muting or reducing the voice component.
Build and release
Automating component levels lets the same cue become smaller under exposition and fuller when the scene opens up.
Refocus the arrangement
Raise or lower musical groups to draw attention toward rhythm, bass, guitar or the remaining arrangement without reopening the original music session.
4. Automation
Do not freeze the remix if the picture is changing
Blackmagic explicitly notes that Music Remixer changes can be automated. That matters because music in a finished program rarely needs the same balance for every shot: vocals may disappear under dialogue, drums may return for an action beat, and the full arrangement can open after narration ends.
Treat automation as part of the edit. Make musical changes at meaningful picture events and listen across the transition, not only at a frozen frame or isolated bar.

5. Quality control
AI separation is a tool to audition, not a license to stop listening
Check leakage
Lower one component and listen to what disappears with it. Separation may include overlapping harmonics or ambience from other musical parts.
Check transients
Drums and sharp attacks reveal artifacts quickly. A cleaner visual meter is irrelevant if the groove becomes smeared or unstable.
Check in context
The goal is the finished scene. A stem that sounds imperfect solo can still solve the mix, while an impressive solo result can fail under dialogue and effects.
Keep an escape route
Compare with bypass and keep the original music track available. If the AI remix damages the cue, a conventional level move, ducking or a different edit may be better.
